A/Prof Orazio Vittorio is a Scientia Associate Professor at UNSW Sydney and Head of the Metal Targeted Therapy & Immunology Laboratory. He is internationally recognized for his pioneering research on copper metabolism in cancer and its translation into new therapies and diagnostics for aggressive childhood cancers, including neuroblastoma, DIPG, and glioblastoma.

A/Prof Vittorio has authored over 100 publications, six book chapters, and is an inventor on six patents, with three ISI Highly Cited papers. His landmark discoveries include the first evidence of elevated copper levels in neuronal tumours, the development of copper-targeted PET imaging adopted by GE Healthcare, and the identification of copper’s role in immune evasion (PD-L1 regulation).
